Editorial policy
Sources
We prefer primary and official sources: U.S. government health agencies and the consensus statements of professional sleep organizations. When we use a secondary source, such as the Sleep Foundation's medically reviewed articles, we name it.
Health content
We do not make medical claims. We report what the sources say, show the arithmetic and point readers to a doctor when the sources do. We avoid promising that any schedule will make you feel a certain way.
Updates
Each article shows its publication date and the date of its last update. We review the recommended-hours table whenever CDC changes its page.
Use of AI
AI tools help draft and review text. No text is published before its numbers and claims are checked against the cited source and against our calculation library.
Corrections
When we find an error we fix the article or the calculator and note the update date on the page.
